Near summer's end ...

August 9, 2007

He is sleeping.

Our last night alone here and I nearly fell asleep reading to him. He fought for more time but finally, then quickly, yawned and rolled over. He has been a joy this summer, at times difficult, but then so am I. People make a point of telling me how much they admire him, his boldness, his intensity, or surprisingly, his composure. We had a handful of moments when the bell rang and we retired to our mutual corners exhausted, both a bit defeated, but at the end of the day, each day, we settled in together, to begin the journey into night, to sleep.
