I have mixed emotions about the first day of the month, the same kind of mixed emotions I have about the first day of the New Year or the first day of a new job or a first date. It has something to do with expectation and loss, what has been and what might be, promising and regretting, a measure of hopeful anticipation and a sniff of fear.

Ah, but this one is so fleeting. I always feel thankful when January is over; like I've made it over a hurdle and we are on our way towards spring and fresh beginnings.

it's going to be a great month, much better than January (and if not, it's shorter too).
