The New Moon

January 18, 2006

I am seeing much more of the moon lately. Funny how a move of a few degrees of longitude and latitude can change your views of things. I wish I could paint, I can’t, I’ve tried. There is a blog called The Shape of Daily Life – it’s in my links section – and the author has included in her blog a superb painting of the moon – her moon. It is worth a look. His Holiness has recently discovered the moon, so as with many things that he is finding for the first time, I am rediscovering the moon with him as my guide. This morning the first thing I did was search out the best window for gazing at the moon. It has shifted around a bit in the last few days. When he wakes in a few minutes, he too will walk to the window and look for the moon and if he wakes after sunrise and asks me where it’s gone, I will do my best to explain in words that he will accept, if not fully understand.

my son paints the moon all the time. but you write about it. so it's the same thing.
when he was little he used to ask where it's gone and i used to say it went to the other side, for little children in other countries to see
