Dancing

Tonight I understood

What dying is

And I wept for it

Not for that passing

Which is inevitable

But for the leaving

Because

Because

As he danced for me

In his droopy diaper

And chocolate t-shirt

As he dipped and turned

And fell and rose again

Laughing

Joyful

I knew

I knew

As sure as sunrise

That I would never

Know the end

Love you are not fair

To me

Or to any man

Who loves a child

And cannot hold him

Forever

Forever

Again

Some poems don't enter me through my ears or eyes. Some poems, like this one, dive straight into my heart!
