On a recent journey home ...
I will not know her
As I did then
I am not that man I was
And never will be again
I can lament lost dreams shared
But can not dream them back to being
She was mine for a moment
A short-lived lifetime
I thought would last forever
I can see her this morning
A clear and bright new day
She holds another’s hand now
She knows another’s breath on that soft neck
And so it will ever be
No matter how I weep to dream her back
